Philosophies
Affirmations is a Treatment Center that believes in the affirmation of the True Self through mindfulness, surrender to a recovery program and a virtue-based life that promotes human flourishing. Eckhard Tolle, a contemporary philosopher states, “often we are trapped in a mind-created sense of Self”, which often helps to maintain an illusion of a full life, when in fact, we are engaged in a false sense of Self.
Addiction is one of those life conditions that heighten the False Self. Often we are deceived by our thoughts when abusing alcohol and drugs, gambling and work, sex and other obsessions. Mindfulness helps the alcoholic and addict to “still” or “stay”. Mindfulness can be a method to deconstruct those deceptive thoughts and build a consciousness of recovery and health.
Surrender permits the person in recovery to have the courage to be open to their True Self, instead of submitting to your old sense of False Self. An alcoholic or addict will often resist surrender. The misconception is their current “getting what they want” approach is making them happy and fulfilled. No. In fact, every addict comes to an understanding that their life and the deceptions and illusions are not working for them. Those who come to Affirmations Rehab will embark on a journey, a most important journey, where they address core issues and adopt specific health focused practices (e.g. virtues, 12-Steps, meditation, therapeutic massage, etc.).
We bring people to a place of readiness. Ready for what? Affirmations is considered a Primary Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program. In this course of treatment, you arrive with recent use, or practice of your addiction and you ready yourself with tools promoting a mind+ body+ spiritual+ social integration = our primary goal at Affirmations.
Psychologically, we practice a Positive Psychology, which strengthens and affirms the True Self, through less attention on constructed labels and codes, and more on the process of transformation from a character based on obsessions, anxieties and fears to a life with purpose and awareness of the person you can affirm and permit others to affirm you. Our therapists are trained in addiction recovery and attending to the core issues that have helped to maintain the illusion of False Self.
We believe this is an attainable state. The process may be uncomfortable and even painful. However, choosing to avoid this process you are left with a False Self and the set of thoughts, perceptions and behaviors that keep you trapped in an unconscious, unhappy state = Addiction.
If you, or someone you love is seeking help with addiction recovery, Affirmations is the place to call. We have spent a great deal of time and resources to ensure our program has a philosophical basis and intentional.
